WWE Piped in Crowd Noise for PreTaped 1222 SmackDown
WWE brought a pre-taped episode of SmackDown last week. That is a rarity, because WWE usually brings live shows. That being said, they needed to do this, so their crew had a break for Christmas. Now, we’re getting a bit more information about the broadcast.
WWE will sometimes add crowd noise when they need to. That isn’t generally the practice anymore, but last week’s SmackDown called for it.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that there were some strange sounds during SmackDown this week. The company had to pipe in fake crowd reactions to sweeten the audio.
“The weird noise is the fake noise … they piped in lots of fake noise.”
WWE knows how to present a television show, and they also realize that live fans greatly affect home viewership. That being said, they piped in fake crowd reactions for SmackDown, because they needed to this time around.
WWE RAW will be a Best-Of episode for Christmas Day, so they won’t have to pipe in fake crowd reactions then. We will have to see when WWE decides they need to pull that trick out of their bag next.
