Stone Cold Steve Austin Apparently Didnt Want To Face Off Against Chyna
WWE Hall Of Famer ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin was arguably the most popular wrestler in WWE during the late 90s. Around that time, Chyna was also making a name for herself, breaking boundaries as a female WWE Superstar.
Prior to SummerSlam 1999, Chyna became the #1 Contender for Steve Austin’s WWE Title. However, it was Mankind who ultimately took Chyna’s place in the title match.
It seems there was more to this story as revealed by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross on his Grilling JR podcast. During the podcast, he told Conrad Thompson that Steve Austin knew of Chyna even before she signed with WWE.
While Austin and Chyna got along well backstage, The Bionic Redneck apparently had no desire to face Chyna inside the squared circle.
“No, I do not [think Steve Austin wanted to face her. Not no but hell no. Steve was in that original trio of guys that sat there and talked to Chyna way back in the day when we began this story. I don’t think they ever had a cross word but Steve is old school enough that he’s not gonna do that.”
Austin would go on to lose the WWE Title in a triple threat match between Mankind and Triple H at SummerSlam 1999, with Mankind becoming the new champion.
